Reflective Illusions

We live in a society where everything is exceedingly rushed, which, unfortunately forces us to overlook many details of our surrounding environment. Through the use of mirrors, I have created new scenery through the reflections. These images are heavily aimed at incorporating the background and side views of a particular position that would ordinarily be ignored or even unnoticeable during our daily activities. The reflections of the mirrors allow the viewer to see the landscape in a new, innovative way, and many of the images demonstrate the importance and/or significance of being attentive of your surroundings for multiple reasons. By using a beveled-edge mirror, I am separating the space of the natural world with the artificiality of the mirror, creating additional planes and even adding new dimensions to the flat surface. Each photograph is a different scene or landscape in nature, and provides the viewer with multiple illusions, reflections, and ideas about each of the chosen locations. This project is aimed for personal photographic growth and experimentation, and also to allow the viewer to consider all aspects of their surroundings as well as change their current perceptions of the natural environment.

Hi Rebecca, your link came up on my little news feed thing on facebook and I got curious, haha. Anyway, I really, really like this project, particularly the photos in which the image in the mirror really contrasts with the background, especially #9, #10, #13, and #14. Great job! It’s nice to see some of your newer work!

that is a very cool idea. i think if you would make the mirror picture color and the outside B/W would really make it stand it. just a thought, but very well done 😀
