Vanishing Vastness

This project began as an experiment with road signs, and the relationship they had with their background and surroundings. I was intrigued by the placement of the signs, which seemed to relay humorous, geometrical, and even environmental themes. I began to notice that most of the signs had been vandalized, which made me realize how, even in a place of serenity and beauty, the disrespect for nature could be so prevalent. This project now focuses on the different environmental themes each of the road signs gives, and how they can be translated differently from the actual government defined meaning. I feel each sign relates to the backgrounds in different ways, and portrays a message of the increasing destruction we cause to the planet.
