Lighting Kits…

I am currently in the process of researching different continuous lighting kits. I want to purchase one, but I can’t decide whether I want softboxes or umbrellas, although both do pretty much the same thing (diffusing light). Any suggestions or helpful tips anyone can give me?

My monthly photo project began in March of 2010. Like many other photographers, I am choosing to do a rendition of a 365 project; however, mine differs in the fact that I have focused on one subject every month. I am not limiting myself to the amount of photographs I take, but I do try to practice quality over quantity in regards to the chosen subject matter. For the first month, I chose to focus on macro and abstract views of trees and tree bark. With so many different kinds of trees I was able to capture a variety of colors, textures, and patterns. Thanks San Rafael Park!!!! What a gorgeous place photograph!

Please enjoy this body of work (which is located in the image gallery section labelled “Tree Series”) and feel free to leave comments. I always welcome constructive criticism! Keep your eyes peeled for my April project that will be posted very soon! April was an expansion of my floral photography!

It has been so long…

I finally have time to get back to my blog….why?????? My undergraduate career is now complete! I had my last day of school yesterday (after an extremely stressful semester) so I have more time to focus on my photography. Thank you all for the support and advice over the last five years!

I have had bronchitis and pneumonia for the last 4 weeks…so the 365 project has been extended to March. Thanks everyone for reading! I will have new photos and posts up soon!

The end of my undergraduate photographic career…

Although I have one last semester as an undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno, I have completed all of my photography courses. My last project, Reflective Illusions, was a huge success. I have updated that gallery, so take a look at my completed project in Gallery 09. I was extremely happy with my critique; my professor called it “a breakthrough project for me.”

Now that I have finished with the academic side of my photography, I will be able to explore the art on another level. February 1, 2010 will begin my 365 project (I know so many people do this… but for me it is a way to expand on my portfolio and allow me to continue practicing and learning the art of photography.) However, my year-long project will not be self- portraits (as many participants in a 365 project choose to do). I have decided to concentrate on a different theme or subject every month. I have a few ideas for subject- matter, but I would love to hear from anyone with ideas that will be challenging and fun!

Sooooo…. help me out everyone! What subjects or ideas do you think I should include in my monthly variety project???

The photographs from the color journal are located in Gallery 10. I am still working on the scanned pages from the journal, but hopefully they will be ready soon! Take a look at Gallery 09.
